Project A15 Video Mapping

Projection Mapping RotterdamThis image might look like it’s a CGI mockup or a scene from Bladerunner, but it’s actually a video still of projection mapping in Rotterdam. Below is a photograph of the OMA-designed skyscraper that the visuals were projected onto.De Rotterdam OMA Building by Raban HaaijkDe Rotterdam building, as seen from Erasmus Bridge. Project A15 – the idea that this event was promoting – is an initiative that seeks to make the busy highway running from Rotterdam to Nijmegen into the most sustainable highway in the world. The projection itself can be seen in the video below, and bear in mind that the height of the De Rotterdam building is 150 metres. That’s taller than London’s Centrepoint, which stands at 117 metres!

Neon Dreams

Mount St Window/Louboutin/London/Jan 2011Set up in 2009 by Xavier Sheriff & Gemma Ruse, StudioXAG is a creative studio specialising in art direction & display design for retail. Some notable examples of their work includes the Louboutin red sole Christmas tree, and a Diesel U:Music installation, which saw a whole branch of Diesel transformed to look like a huge boombox! No matter what the season or occasion, this duo always seem to be able to work in a splash of bright fluoro colours or neon lights. I’ve picked out some of my favourite projects below…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAChristian Louboutin window, ParisFluorescent TopshopTopman Studio XAGTopshop / TopmanDiesel Loverdose Studio XAGDiesel LoverdoseCharlotte Tilbury Studio XAGCharlotte Tilbury pop up at Selfridges, London.

They Sent Their Briefs Back

TBWA South AfricaWhat’s the best way to piss a client off?

Perhaps you could ignore the brief they sent you? You might just decide that the agency knows best and go against their wishes completely? But how about going one step further. You could tear up the brief completely, make a bit of poncy origami with it…and then use extra resources to make your own self-promotional video, documenting the whole ‘fuck you’ process!

This is exactly what TBWA South Africa did. Although, I suppose they did have a valid point to make…

I’m guessing that while they were making this video, their ATL department probably were taking care of those original briefs, though. A nice idea if you have the resources, but probably not a possibility for most small agencies.

Fantasy Man Generator

Fantasy Man GeneratorSmile Makers, the manufacturers of cutesy sex toys named after traditionally desirable male stereotypes (‘The Millionaire’, ‘The Fireman’, you get the idea…) have created this microsite which allows you to create a ‘fantasy man’ and put him in a ‘fantasy setting’ and then, um…email him to your friends? The whole exercise feels a little pointless, but I suppose it’s just a bit of promotional fun.Bateman FantasyI ended up half-heartedly making this, so I suppose it means that I’m subconsciously attracted to Patrick Bateman types, which is kind of soul crushing. Actually…doesn’t this guy remind you of Scott Disick? Oh dear.
I guess, it could be worse, when this is an option…CreepyYep, that’s right, it’s the sweaty anorak-wearing weirdo who’s often in your local Spar. Except he’s now wearing animal print underpants and he’s ready for action on, presumably, an 8-year-old girl’s bed. What the fuck?

Tind Cards: Sneak Peek

Leonie Cumiskey Card Drying PrintsTind Handprinted CardsLeonie Cumiskey WriterMy business cards are ready. They should be arriving in the post soon – yay!

In Tind We Trust

Hand Printed Business CardsWell, I didn’t think I’d ever be so enthusiastic about getting some business cards made. Although, these are some pretty special business cards – they would make Patrick Bateman jealous. I found Tind‘s work over on Behance and I was really excited about it. He’s pretty much taken the Absolut Unique approach to printing business cards, meaning that you end up with crazy Hapshash-style psychedelic designs. Because of the traditional methods used, I haven’t seen anything like this before – the gradient style ones look so superior to ones that have been created digitally. The process is shown below and there are more photos on Behance and Tind’s Facebook page, too.Tind Ink Press Tind Printing PlateTind inks up the plates, often using two or three colours, and sometimes adding swirls and lines – just experimenting with strange effects, really. In later print runs he’s started to layer up different colours, which is more time-consuming but can produce some amazing effects. The card Tind uses also varies in colour, weight and texture – meaning there are even more limitless combinations.Psychedelic Print Tind Print RackThe cards are left to dry and then cut down to size.Tind Random Business CardsFinished Business CardsI can’t wait to see how mine turn out! I’m going to scan my favourite designs and I will post the results when they’re ready. The only problem is, I’m not sure I’ll actually want to give my business cards away to people…

Terrible Advice.

Coca-Cola Work It Out‘Great music can put the fun into vacuuming,’ claim Coca-Cola on their Work It Out microsite, ‘Crank up a fast-paced tune and burn some calories while you clean!’ they enthuse.

I really love Coca-Cola, but this site is ridiculously patronising and this is the stupidest fucking workout advice I’ve ever heard. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a decent ‘fast-paced tune’ and thought to myself, “You know what would make this track even better? The sound of a roaring hoover!”
