Bits ‘n’ Bobs

Colourful baggiesOld cinema ticketsColourful ephemera found on Designspiration. One of my favourite ways to waste time is to play around with the colour palette feature on Designspiration. Sometimes really nice images appear as a result of what you might think would be a gross colour combination.

Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know?

Do I Wanna Know videoArctic Monkeys BlinkInkDo I Wanna Know David WilsonAnimated Arctic Monkeys videoBlinkInk Arctic MonkeysDavd Wilson Do I Wanna KnowCool video for Arctic Monkeys’ newest single. The style and colours remind me of the scene from Dumbo, when he’s drunk and hallucinating! This synaesthetic animation is by David Wilson, who was behind Tame Impala’s brain-melting ‘Mind Mischief‘ video. He also directed the gloriously technicolour IKEA advert, which I posted a while back.

I like the song, too. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the new album – ‘AM’ – which is out on September 9th.

These are all by Matt Cliff, who got in touch with me after I originally posted about how much I liked the branding for the new album and The Black Angels’ Facebook cover.

Cartoon Network Turns 20!

Cartoon Network always felt like such a treat for me as a kid. We didn’t have a Sky subscription back then, so I’d never tire of watching endless cartoons whenever I got the chance. London design agency, I Love Dust, created this two minute video for Cartoon Network’s twentieth anniversary and – although I don’t recognise many of the characters now – it still makes me feel all happy and fuzzy inside.

Beirut – The Rip Tide

The inky, nautical scenes in this video for Beirut’s ‘The Rip Tide’ remind me of Mark Mawson’s work, if it were in motion. Watch the beautiful tranquil seascape up until about 2:50, when it’s suddenly flooded with a rich influx of colours.

Primary Coloured Selfridges

Summer 2012 is supposed to be Britain’s moment. We’ve got the Jubilee and the Olympics, and in true British fashion we’ve got a fuck load of rain to go with it. Everyone’s trying to get in on the act, but at least Selfridges have done a decent job of it, truly evoking the glory years of cool Britannia with their Big British Shop concept store.

But why stop at blue and red, and leave out the Selfridges signature sunny yellow hue? In tandem with the launch of their Big British Shop, Selfridges have also reprised 2009’s The Big Yellow Shop. Everything Pantone 109 can be found there, so for those with sallow complexions – perhaps you’d better steer clear of any clothes that are stocked? Pantone 109 is definitely not my colour.
