Lanvin Windows: Splash!

Colourful minimalist windows, displaying Lanvin‘s Winter 2012 collection.

In Bloom

Flowers are often considered to be the most basic and rudimentary of art subjects. That doesn’t mean they can’t be thought provoking and inspired, though. Previously I’ve touched on preserved flowers and woodland installations, but it seems as though creatives are constantly finding new ways to distance organic substances from the boring and the tired.

This installation by Anna Schuleit is simultaneously enchanting and sad. Schuleit used the interior of the soon-to-be-closed Massachusetts Mental Health Centre in Boston, and filled it with 28,000 potted flowers, which were sorted according to colour. The installation was created to draw attention to the absence of flowers in psychiatric hospital settings. After the exhibition closed, the potted flowers were removed and donated to hospitals, psychiatric units, halfway houses and homeless shelters throughout New England.

These gorgeous watercolour and graphite works by Daryl Feril inject colour, fluidity and femininity into these luxury brands and their familiar logos. The three shown here are my favourites, but there are more to see over on Behance.

This is what happened when Raf Simons decided he wanted to cover the interior of a Parisian mansion with 1 million flowers! This impressively extravagant feat was in aid of the Dior Haute Couture A/W 2012 show, and you can see a video of the set being built over at Dior’s official Youtube channel.

Choupette Lagerfeld in V Magazine

Karl Lagerfeld’s pampered puss features in a spread with Laetitia Casta in V magazine. The fashion world already loves Choupette, and her supposed Twitter account has thousands of followers. Obviously we know that Choupette doesn’t write the tweets herself, but Lagerfeld has already said in a previous interview that she has two maids to look after her, and they keep a diary of her moods when he’s not there! So who knows, maybe they run her Twitter so that Karl can keep tabs on his precious kitty through social media? It’s hard to figure out what actually counts as “ridiculous” to those who are as rich and eccentric as Karl Lagerfeld. However, it’s more likely that it was set up and run by a fashion fan with too much time on their hands and a penchant for comedy.

This is my cat, Misty, by the way. Clearly not as pampered as Choupette but she is a very good breed (Selkirk Rex variant, in case you were wondering) and in this photo she is sleeping on goose down and Egyptian cotton (she thinks my mum’s bed is hers)! Misty is a retired breeding cat, which means that I got a gorgeous healthy pedigree for free.

Remember though, a cat is for life, not just for A/W 12.

Emporio Armani AW 2012

Oh wow. This new campaign film from Emporio Armani is so exquisite. Shot by Alasdair McLellan in Tokyo, it somehow manages to recall the electrifying visuals of Gaspar Noé’s ‘Enter The Void’, but slows the pace and adds a contemplative soundtrack – echoing the melancholy that runs through Tetsuya Nakashima’s ‘Confessions’.
