Father John Misty / Dimitri Drjuchin

They say that you should never judge a book by its cover – but what about a record? I was drawn to Father John Misty’s music because of the excellent psychedelic pop art on the album cover, which was done by Dimitri Drjuchin. If you visit his website, you can see all his other amazing paintings in his vibrant, distinctive style. This particular picture also reminds me of Chad VanGaalen’s creepily cool video for ‘Molten Light‘. The multi-talented VanGaalen did the drawings himself, and the finished work is like some kind of horribly warped version of The Simpsons. This is my favourite song from Father John Misty’s ‘Fear Fun’ album, it’s called ‘Hollywood Forever Cemetry Sings’, and I reckon if you like Kurt Vile, The Black Keys or The Fresh & Onlys then you might be into it as well.
