Happiness Islands

I love this trippy little interactive project from Coca-Cola.

Happiness Islands are a collection of sitelets by W + K Amsterdam that are just designed to inject a little bit of fun into your day and make you smile. Some are really quite surreal, like the window in a window mini-site, while others can respond to movements and noise. The NoMoving.com game uses your webcam – it tells you to focus on the red dot and then plays a hypnotising animation.

After I had sat and watched this for a little while, I began to think, “Hang on, why the hell does it need to use my webcam to show me this?” So I waved into the lense to see what would happen, and then this smug little panda showed up and everything became clear to me…

It’s a really clever bit of branding, mainly because there’s nothing more to it. You don’t have to sign up or anything, it’s just a set of intriguing interactive sites which happen to be made by Coca-Cola. My favourite one was the Falling Dominoes Game. It’s exactly what you’d expect it to be, but that doesn’t make it any less fun!
